Worried about Infertilty

by derson, Feb 28, 2005 12:00AM
I was tested for all STDs 4 times and all were negative but was given Athromycin as a precaution (i had had unproteced sex previously)after my girlfriend experienced unusual discharge and spotting two times both a  week after sex. She did not get tested but did take the antibiotic. She has since been thoroughly tested and been negative but I am worried of the chances she could have silent PID. She had 8 differnet tests wjich were all culture based. The only symptom she seems to have is a loss of appetite after a bout of flu? Many thnaks for your advice in advance

You are overly concerned about a non-problem.  PID causes abdominal pain.  Although "silent" cases can occur, there is virtually no chance of the infection with 4 negative STD tests (which likely included chlamydia and gonorrhea testing).  Had I been your doctor, I would not have prescribed azithromycin for either of you--but that would have reduced an already zilch chance to double zilch.  Don't lose sleep over the likelihood of PID or infertility.

HI again and thanks for getting back to me- I wanted to clarify evem though my tests were negative the docs gave me zithromax as i might have NSU (slight tingling etc)As well a she tests i have been to a urlogist and had a MSU test with him and have always been clear. My worry is that my girlfriend had something which was cured by the Zythromax and that why is  she tested negative afterwards.  My worry is that PID could develop later on even though her tests are clear (they did test for chlamydia gonnorea and 6 other diseases) I greatly appreciate your help as I cannot seem to move forward on this even though she has.
