Molluscum??

Hi Doc. Thanks for such a great forum. My urologist diagnosed me with molluscum (says he has seen more than most) on a routine visit for testing and treatment of prostatis. Then I went to the county STD department for treatment and 2 nurses there said they could not treat it because I did not have it and showed me some pics of what it looked like and i agreed. They thought maybe some pimples or inflamed hair follicles and told me not to pick at it. Im really confused. They were mainly on my scrotum and appear as shiny patches of skin that bleed heavily when barely picked at. I had one on the mid shaft of the penis also that bled like crazy. I have tested negative for all STDs including a Herpeselect test at 9 weeks. Nothing has ever blistered up but is crusting and scabbing over like a cut on any other part of the body. What could this be? They told me not to worry it wasnt an STD, but i am worrying way too much about it. Especially the one on the penis. Thanks doc.

My guess is that the STD clinic health care providers have seen more MV and are more familiar with it than your urologist.  I'm pretty sure you are safe accepting the reassurance of the STD clinic folks.  But if you want a tie-breaking opinion, ask the STD clinic to recommend a dermatologist in your area for another opinion.  Certainly I won't try to guess when separate health care providers have given conflicting opinions.
