Medicine for HBV carrier

by rickyme, Jul 28, 2005 12:00AM
I was diagnosed with hepatitis B(carrier),last year.I understand that there is no cure for it,but there are some medicine that can prevent the virus from becoming harmful to my liver.

So my question is,can you give me any recommendations on what is the best medicine available to prevent my liver from getting attacked by the virus?Pls let me know also if there`s any side effects.

I`m currently taking milk thistle and dandelion to strengthen my liver, though I`m not really sure whether it is medically proven to be effective. What is your opinion on this?

Another question is,how can I tell when the virus is attacking me?are there any symptoms? The doctor I met told me that since I am only a carrier there`s nothing to worry about. What is your opinion on hepatitis B carriers?

Thanks in advance!

I am not an expert in treatment of HBV inections.  However, I am unaware of any drugs that can prevent liver disease--and can tell you for sure that milk thistle and dandelion are silly and useless.  Follow your doctor's advice.

My main "opinion" on HBV carriers is that they are responsible for protecting all their sex partners by informing them of their infection and consistent use of condoms for vaginal or anal sex; and most important, your regular sex parnter(s) need to be vaccinated against the virus (which is highly effective--once done, you can stop using condoms that that partner).
