Penis Discoloring

by what is it, Aug 07, 2005 12:00AM
I have a dark colored Uncircumcised penis lately I have noticed that on the skin of my penis (towards the tip) the skin color seems to be changing from a dark color to a lighter sort of pinkish color ( the same color as my penis head). In addition the discoloring seems to be growing. What is this???

I'm not an expert in this area, except to be certain this isn't due to an STD.  Perhaps it is just natural changing of skin tone, which can be a normal part of aging.  If it is a sharplly delineated area of very white skin--no pigment at all--it could be vitiligo, an autoimmune disorder (but largely harmless except for cosmetic effect).  If it itches or is inflamed, some sort of dermatitis is possible.

I suggest you see a health care provider, perhaps a dermatologist.  Or, if you want to seek more online information first, consider asking the same question on the Med Help Dermatology Forum.  In that case, provide Dr. Rockoff with more detail about the size of the area, other symptoms, the color and other things I mention above.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
