You have been helpful in my quest to question my own doctors in what they know, I was first diadnosed with urethritis and no test was done for chla. or gono. he prescribed 1 levo at 750mg and a prescription of 4 500mg. of zithro. I only had a discharge when I would squeeze my penis, so after finishing the meds the discharge was still there so I went back and they then said it was trich after viewing my urine no other test was don. I was prescribed alinia at 5 day, two a day at 500mg, i thought I was getting better after three days but the discharge was still there if I squeezed my penis, I returned and they did the cotton swab test and took urine and did a HIV test. The same visit I was told that trich was still visible in urine. Je said to finish the alinia, later that day I remembered that you said that the FDA did not endorse alinia for trich so I called the doc and asked if he would call in a prescription of flagl, which he did to my surprise was only 89 cent for a 7 day, 2 tablets a day at 500mg. The alinia for 5 days at 500mgs was 28.00. Iwas called yesterday and all my tests came back negative and they checked my urine and nothing was present but earlier in the day I squeezed my penis and some clear stuff came out just a little. My question is can you see trich just from viewing urine because I have my doubts and why would a doctor prescribe medicine that is not FDA approved for trich and cost 28 dollars to fill when you could prescribe flagl at only 89 cents for a full 7 day treatment.

You'll have to ask your doctor why he initially prescribed Alinia instead of metronidazole (Flagyl); I cannot read minds.  Absence of visible trich in the urine doesn't prove you were cured, but having now received the recommended treatment with metronidazole, you can be sure it was cured.  But if symptoms persist or recur, return to your doctor - or get a second opinion.
