Hi Doc,

I just want to thank you for everything that you are doing here and for all of the valuable information that you making available for people in our situation.  Anyway,  I'm a heterosexual male and back in the first week of June 05 I spent a weekend with a girl and we had unprotected (vaginal)sex about three times(stupid me).  Approximately two months later she informed me that she was HIV+ so I started to freak out and investigating HIV symptoms.  During the time between our encounter and when she informed me she was HIV+ I didn't notice any symptoms of HIV.  No fever, no swollen lymph or anything like that.  During this time I had also gone on vacation for about a month and lost about ten pounds. which tends to happen to many people when they vacation there.  A year prior to my vacation I was about 25 pounds overweight so I joined a gym so I could loose some weight. I was working out about 2 hours on an average of about 3 times a week.  I was successful in losing about 15 pounds without necessarily dieting.  While on my vacation I made a conscious decision to eat very little and I was very active so i lost about 10 pounds which brought me to my ideal weight. Also I was sweating a lot as it was a very hot climate not sure if that means anything.

Anyway as I did my research I came to find out that the odds of getting HIV from a one time encounter is approximately 1 in 1000 if having unprotected sex with an infected partner.  That eased my anxiety.

Two days ago I noticed two bumps on the left side of my neck and started researching them. from what I found out, they seem like molluscum but I'm not sure. I also noticed some much smaller red bumps behind my left year.  I don't have them in any other part of my body.  What I also found out from my research is that most people have molluscum on their crotch area and some have them in their face. I was able to squeeze the bump on my neck and I noticed a bit of clear liquid mixed in with some blood (very little bleeding).

Right now I am freaking out as I am sure that I am HIV+ as molluscum is often found on HIV+ individuals.

I am scheduled to go and get tested on Monday I just wanted an evaluation of my chances so pleas provide me answers to the following questions.

A)What are the chances of what I described is Molluscum.

B) If it is molluscum what are the chances that I'm my HIV status in negative.

C) My question is what are my chances of coming out ok? (seems bleak)

D) All in all what are my chances here based on what I’ve described.

Before I go I just want to THANK you for helping me sleep at night as I haven't been able to sleep at night so I come here to get some re-assurance as things seem bleak at this point.

If your female acquired HIV recently and believes you might be the source of her infection, it is a good bet you have HIV.  Otherwise, the odds are low.  Symptoms and the presence of molluscum contagiosum or other STDs rarely are a reliable indicator for or against HIV infection.  Your HIV test result will tell the story; all the rest is irrelevant.

A) You do not provide nearly enough information about the "bumps" for me to speculate as to whether you have molluscum or something else.  However, molluscum of the head and neck is rare so I doubt you have it.

B) The vast majority of people with molluscum contagiosum do not have HIV.

C, D) The opposite of bleak.  It is unlikely you have HIV.

Good luck--- HHH, MD

Hi: I read your story and couldn't resist writing to you. I'm sure you are terrified and feel so sorry for you. I know getting tested is frightening but we all have done it (certainly everyone on this sight). How could you have waited so long. If you are negative (crossing my fingers for you), you have had such a long stretch of anxiety for nothing. And also you need to know to protect others as well. unless you have given up sex ;)  In all seriousness, hope you are well and wish you the best. And did the girl know before she slept with you?

Don't worry too much about your symptoms. You can have all the symptoms in the world and still be negative. Go get tested on Monday and with God's help, you'll be negative. I know it's not easy, but try to keep your mind off of it as much as you can this weekend. Good luck to you man and keep us updated.

Good luck on monday my friend , I had a condom on when I had sex with a prostitute but I didn't use one for oral and I am scared much like yourself. I am positive the girl I was with has every disease known to man and I just lost my head that night. Hey maybe you won't be positive , the odds are still in your favor. Please though , come back and tell us what happens no matter what the outcome. Thats some scary stuff that she told you she is positive. If she knew before hand then thats criminal.

I'mDOne...if you are confident in a negative status before this exposure, the odds are BIG in your favor.  I send you my best wishes and karma. I am betting on a big negative.

Lutheran - You have zero chance of HIV, that is what condoms are for, and ou used it.  You know that there has been no cases on instertive oral tied to HIV.  With the millions of unprotected oral in non monagamous relationships that happen every day in the USA,  I would think they could find ONE case if there were a link.  There simply isn;t any evidence.  You are fine my friend.

Bless both of you.  I think you are both just fine.

While I hope your right , I just have a bad feeling about it all..my back hurts , im getting a cold and sore throat , my penis and groin hurt now for 10 days etc..hard to not let your mind get to running when these things are occuring. Thx for the kind words though.

To: Lutheran and I am Done
I know how both of you feel right now, with the urgency to figure out the results. Which I am preety sure they are going to be negative. For Lutheran, I was in the same position as you, my friend. But the only difference was that I did it with four different girls I didn't know, they weren't prostitues. But I found them at a bar, so that is even worst. I felt a great pressure inside me. At first I thought I had HIV, which ofcourse that was a minimum encounter. But to be honest with you, HIV is not as easy to trasmit. Is really hard, speacially for Oral or Vaginal sex. They are really hard, thats why Anal sex has the #1 source to get infected during sex. I wouldn't be worry Lutheran if I was you, but a exam will definitely liberate you from your own mind. To I am Done, I think you are going to be OK, Like the doctor said. Like i was saying before, Oral sex and Vaginial sex are minimum when it comes to HIV infection, "is not impossible" But very minimum. I wish you both the best and please, I hope this experience can open your mind a little. Like it did to me, it doesn't mean that we are going to stop and don't have sex
