Paranoid?

About 2-3 weeks ago I noticed significant discomfort in the Anal region.  At first I thought that it was a reocurrence of Hemmorhoids.  These felt different though.  More like a bunch of tiny pimples in and around my anal area.  I had a real bad episode of diahhrea and thought that might have caused the irritation as well. I disntinclty remember having alot of chaffing in my anal area after having the diaharea.  I used the usual hemmoroid medcine, hydrocortozone, etc.   Nothing was getting better.  I went to the doctor and he informed me that it might Be HPV or genital warts.  I have had a couple of sexual encounters over the last few months and used a condom each time.  Their is nothing visable on my scrotum or Penis just in the anal area.  Is their anyway these could be transfered to me other than by sexual contact? I am going in to see a surgeon about getting rid of them.  My Dr didn't tell me I had genital warts he just said they could be.  My second question is can these  be transfered to others with out skin to skin contact, ie, washing with the same soap or using the same washcloth?  Please let me know if you can help?

The symptoms you describe do not suggest warts, which are not painful, irritating, or pimple-like, and not associated with diarrhea.  If you have anal warts, that's a separate issue than whatever was causing the soreness.  And it sounds like your doc isn't sure.  Anal warts can occur in heterosexual men - but you need to get the second opinion before you assume you have that problem.  In addition to the surgeon (or before you see him or her), you might visit your local health department STD clinic for their opinion.  The odds are you don't have any STD.

A couple of brief follow-up questions are OK as comments in previous threads, but you can't start a whole new thread on an open topic.  Only a limited number of new threads can be accommodated each day, and unnecessary ones block others with new problems.  I deleted your new one.

I suggest you hold off on your questions about anal vs genital warts until you know your diagnosis.  Probably you don't have warts at all.  You can cross that bridge if/when you come to it.  In the meantime, search this forum's threads for "anal warts" and "anal HPV".  You'll probably find the answers there.

Doc

One more question in regards to this problem.  If they aren't warts  what do you think they might be and how would I have gotten them?  I am going to see a surgeon about removing them and am getting the results back from a STD test.  Is there any concern to take a HIV test?  I am thinking I am going to get tested?  I was reading that gentital warts can be a cause of conern for HIV?

Thanks

Hey Doc

I was wondering if you had a chance to read and answer my last post?

I haven't a clue what the problem is, if not warts.  Follow up with your doctor(s).  Warts do not increase the risk of catching HIV.

I won't have any further responses.
