Worried about HIV and recurring yeast infections!!!

by nnnachotv, Mar 08, 2007 12:00AM
I had sex with a sex worker while single and stupid. SAFE SEX. Kind of an oxymoron I guess.
Saw ex girlfriend Couple weeks later. Had unprotected sex. Didn't think much of it. Then I saw her a month later and she had what seemed to be a nasty yeast infection. She finally went to doctor and it was diagnosed as a mild yeast infection. She was treated with and oral medication (1 pill only) not sure of name.  Condition got much better. This is Jan 2nd or so.
Recently she has been working long hours 8-12 hr days, travelling, partying with friends, and definitely drinks, uses recreational drugs occasionally and at least to my knowledge does not have the best diet.  I've known her to eat plenty or sweets, dairy products, breads, beers, wine and fries as well.
We had unprotected sex again. She said afterwards that the day before she noticed things were a little tingly "down there".
She later phoned me to tell me that her vagina was in "full force" of course she was upset and confused as to why this seems to happen to her a lot. I of course am freaking out with all the HIV yeast infection talk on the internet. I know a test is the only way to know. What OTHER reasons are there for a supposed yeast infection happening again in a two month period, BESIDES HIV?Mind you, this was the first time we had seen eachother in almost 6 weeks since her last infection.PLEASE HELP. am I THAT Unlucky? I feel horrible.

To All Forum Users:

There was a software glitch and for several days a number of questions were misrouted to a server that did not post them properly. In addition, it appears that the automated limit to number of questions each day did not work properly. The result is a serious backlog. My replies to many questions will be briefer than usual, and I need to be very strict in following the rules about questions that duplicate others, especially for obvious low risk situations. You may use the Contact Us link to raise any concerns. Please note that it is not the moderator's decision whether or not to refund a credit card charge.

Also, I probably will not be able to respond to any follow-up comments or questions.

To your question:

Yeast infections in women are not acquired from their male partners; she didn't catch it from you.  And contrary to some information on the web, yeast infections in women are not indicators of possible HIV.  Some women just have yeast from time to time and it almost never means anything is wrong with their immune systems.  And you did not catch HIV while wearing a condom during your commercial sex event--period.

If your partner is concerned about her symptoms, she should see her provider.  But there is no reason here for concern about HIV.
