Is this an STD???

Dr,

I am hoping you can shed some light on my ongoing situation- I have been in agony for the past 16 months and can not take it anymore.  Over 1 year ago I was the receiver of anonomous oral sex. About 2 weks later I started feeling not right in my penis- I went to the Drs for what I thought may have been an STD- after being tested for Syphillis and Clymadia all tests came out negative- symptoms got worse- frequent urination/ pain in the tip, sharp shooting pains from the base of penis to the tip- went back to the Drs for more std testing and still tests came back negative- finally went to a urologist who said I had Prostatitis (I am only 36) no meds have helped my situation- I am in agony-  my symptoms no are SEVERE redness/ itching at tip of penis that seems to come and go- one day fine the next in agony- the inflamation and burning seem to get worse after ejaculation- at times it actually feels like someone is taking a nail clipper and pinching the opening of my penis- I notice that the head of my penis at times gets a flushed look and just inside the opening it looks like little pieces of skin are missing (almost like a cut) but then these go away the same day- also around the head of my penis the glands seem to get little red spots that again will go away the same day, as well as darker red spots on the head- they seem to be under the skin not topical.  Another symptom I have is numbness on the head of my penis- almost like its falling asleep..
my specific questions are:
*Can this be some type of STD that they are not picking up on?
*Is this a mild form of Herpes??? Never had open sores or oozing-  can I get herpes from a B.J????
*What other STDs could I have gotten from getting a B.J ??

Please tell me what you think all this can be??? DO I HAVE AN STD or is it just my guilt for doing what I did that is making me think I have an STD???  Although this situation is on my mind every day this IS DEFINETLY NOT FOCALIZED ANXIETY !!!

See this thread from a couple of weeks ago: http://www.medhelp.org/forums/STD/messages/4153.html   My reply clearly applies.

You describe no symptoms that suggest STD; not everything that feels wrong with the genitals is due to STD, and you have seen several docs and had several tests, who cannot find any STD.  Prostatitis is often a 'wastebasket' diagnosis, i.e. a name put on a problem that has no other clear explanation.  It is not an STD, and most cases are not due to infection at all and therefore do not clear up on antibiotics.

'Can this be some type of STD that they are not picking up on?'  No.

'Is this a mild form of Herpes???  - can I get herpes from a B.J????'  HSV can be acquired from oral sex, but herpes definitely is not your problem.

'What other STDs could I have gotten from getting a B.J.?'  None that could cause the symptoms you describe.

'DO I HAVE AN STD or is it just my guilt for doing what I did that is making me think I have an STD???' You have no STD.  As I have said many times on this forum, whenever a person suspects guilt or other emotional/psychological explanation for his symptoms, he is almost always right, especially when 'this situation is on my mind every day'.

'This IS DEFINETLY NOT FOCALIZED ANXIETY!!!'  I disagree.  Your defensive use of online shouting (capital letters) is further evidence.  You need to ask your provider to recommend referral for psychological assessment, which might lead to counseling. I suggest it out of compassion, not criticism.

Read the thread I suggested above, then move on.  There is no point in continuing any discussion here.  I won't have any further replies.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Forgot to add that I have been on 1 month of Cipro1000mg as well as 1 month of Doxycycline, as well as Bacrtum- if I did have some sort of STD wouldn't the Cipro/Doxy have treated it?  Also no discharge of any sort except urine due to enlarged prostate problem...

OK.  I was a little surprised you didn't mention antibiotic treatment; I was sure you must have been treated and that it didn't help.  That is still further evidence against any STD.

Let me be clear about my comments about psychological origin of your symptoms.  I don't know that emotion and psychology create painful symptoms out of the blue, but they certainly can greatly magnify symptoms due to any cause.  Your prostatitis (or, probably more accurately, male pelvic pain syndrome) might be the primary problem.  But that is a harmless condition.  You can be 100% sure you have nothing that will ever harm you or a sex partner.  Knowing (and believing) that is the first step in successfully living with your symptoms.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Thanks for your answers- I didn't put that I was on antibiotics because I exceded my word allowance- LOL...thats why I added it in the comments section.  I did take your advice for therapy as sympathetic and not sarcastically- I agree - I need to speak to someone- about my constant worry- I thought that they might have missed something as everyone that I have talked to that has "prostatitis" do not have the severe symptoms I have..but again thank you for reassuring me that I do not have an STD...I will try to relax now
