Strange Pathogen

by nasty symptoms, Jul 07, 2007 12:00AM
Hello I posted before but wanted to update and get some more advice as to the way forward. Just to recap I had a broken condom with a girl in South America and have now tested at 87 days post exposure for Hep, Hiv1, Herpes 1 & 2, Chlym, Gono, and Syph, and all have come back negative except HSV-1 but I am stil experiencing intermittent pain in the urethra and still experiencing the buring feet which you said is no std but could it be an unknown std. If so to whom would I turn to try and identify it or do I need to pass it on to prove that it is. I do not feel it is psycho somatic as this feels like a dream and I hope every morning that things will return to normal.
I have taken doxycycline & acyclovir neither of which have made any difference.

PLEASE HELP

Do you know of any reasearch centers or specialists in FL that could help?

An emotional origin of your symptoms sounds possible.  Whatever is going on, it isn't any STD.  I have no advice about specific referrals.  Your primary care provider is the place to start; s/he may suggest further evaluation by a specialist.   But I have no other advice.  Put STDs out of your mind as a cause of the problem:  no chance.

So then why after exposure do you think I am still experiencing daily urethral pain??
I am going to see a neurologist for the foot symptoms but I do not think he will be able to explain the urethral symptoms.

I'd like to know if you were already HSV-1 positive before these symptoms started. What I mean to know is are you positive you don't have HSV-1 genitally because you know you already had it orally, or did you not already know your status?

Have you also tested or been treated for Trichomoniasis?  You should, that's part of the normal course of treatment for recurrent urethritis.  That may cure you right there.  1 week of 500mg/day of Flagyl could be used, or 2g with one dose.

Your urologist is garbage, the  minimum he should do is a digital rectal exam and microscopically evaluate your EPS (prostatic fluid). And really he should also culture the EPS, and at least test your urine for leukocytes.  Find another one.

I feel like I am in much of the same position you are, I too have all negative tests so far but I still have urethral pain. And oddly enough I've also had burning feet on and off.

I can't say what is causing your continuing urethral pain, but herpes doesn't cause such problems and there is no reason to focus on that particular possibility.  For other possibilities use the search link to look for discussions of "STD symptoms", "STD anxiety", and "male pelvic pain" or "pelvic pain syndrome".  But the main thing is to see your health care provider.  You're never going to get answers on line, from me or anywhere else.

No i did not know my HSV-1 status previously though my mother has had oral outbreaks since childhood so i am pretty certain I caught it from her when I was young. Also doctor has given me acyclovir which has not made any difference so i am pretty sure i do not have hsv-1 genitally.

I have not been tested or treated for trich so will mention that to my doctor next time.

I know that that urologist is useless and will be seeing a different one soon.

My feet burn and I am getting faint pins and needles over different parts of my body at one time or another, this is quite worrying. That is why I am almost certain that there must be some pathogens that have not been identified as otherwise how comes soo many people have such strange symptoms.

My urethra is also very red at times and i have slight burning on urination too.
