DGI-Oral vs IV antibiotics

About 3 years ago I contracted gonorrhea, but did not get it treated properly.  After much denial and procrastination, there is no doubt that I have Disseminated Gonococcal Infection (DGI) now.  Most treatments list having an IV antibiotic.  I am going to use oral antibiotics to get rid of it (much longer story on why, but I have to try this approach first).  I have Zithromax, Cipro, and Cefixime in 500mg pills.

Questions:
1-Of the three listed above, is there one that would be more likely to simulate an IV treatment OR is there another antibiotic that would work better?
2-If so, what dosage (I

I, too, thought that gonorrhea would eventually clear up.  However, the clinic I visited said that DGI is the result of not treating the infection and the bacteria moves to your joints.  This is why they diagnosed the DGI.

They also thought that the heavy antibiotic dosage would put enough in my system to avoid going into the hospital for IV treatments.

This is why I asked here---I wanted to find out if it might work.

Thanks.

I guess I need to rule out the DGI by seeing an infectious disease specialist.  I'm not convinced the clinic had the best information anyway.

I appreciate your candor and direct answer.  Thanks.

Gonorrhea indeed can travel to the joints.  But if you really have DGI, it did not come from a 3 year old infection; it would almost certainly be a recent infection, within the past few weeks.  And if you have been having joint pain and/or other symptoms more than a month (and certainly for 3 years), that's also strong evidence against DGI.  Sounds to me that you either misunderstood your docs.  But if you have any doubt about their knowledge, ask for consultation by an infectious diseases or rheumatology (arthritis) expert.

In any case, your own docs are the one to ask about your treatment, not me or any other distant online source.

Good luck---   HHH, MD

Sorry, you are wrong.  There is no possibility you have DGI at this time.  Even if not properly treated, gonorrhea always clears up within a few weeks to months.  I will not advise antibiotic therapy in this situation.  See a health care provider about whatever symptoms you have and follow his or her advice.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
