Syncope

by Barry, Feb 08, 2000 12:00AM
On november 20th while on vacation I passed out. After going to the Toledo Hospital my doctor told me that I had Cardiomyopathy and my heart was at 30%. I also had a tilt table test and lasted seven minutes. I am now on lopressor and my last test I lasted thirty eight minutes. The doctor told me the two are not related is this true? I also work construction and the doctor said that I could pass out again so I should not work in high areas. When I bend down or move quickly I get light headed will this always be this way? They also tell me that their is no cure for the cardiomyopathy,if not will it get worse and how bad is 30%? I feel fine now but I do get tired more quickly will there be more problems to look for? I am 54 years old and their is CHF in my family could this be my next problem? Is stress a factor in this problem? Thank You

Dear Barry,

I would suggest a full evaluation to rule out CAD as a cause for this decline in your ejection fraction. It would be important to  seek the medical care of a heart failure expert to treat you aggressively to help to improve your symptoms and prolong your life.

As far as the dizzyness this is multifactorial and is due in part to your low heart function and in part due to your body's inability to regulate blood pressure.

Stress may exacerbate any of these conditions.
