Premedication

Is it neccessary for everyone who has MVP to pre-medicate before any dental procedures are performed, if so why?

Dear alardh,

Premedication is necessary with MVP only if it is accompanied by regurgitation.  The reason for this is to help prevent endocarditis.  There is some controversy over the necessity of pre-medication but the current recommendations are still to pre-medicate.
