PAIN AFTER 10 MONTHS

by nancyjo55, Feb 09, 2002 12:00AM
I HAD EP STUDY DONE 10 MONTHS AGO AND THE SITE AT GROIN WHERE THEY ENTERED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO KNEE IS VERY PAINFUL 24 HOURS A DAY. NEVER LETS UP. GETS WORSE WITH EXERCISE AND ACTIVITY. NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF ANYTHING. YOU CAN NOT EVEN SEE AN INCISON SITE, BUT THE PAIN GOES A LINE DOWN MY LEG TO KNEE AND IS VERY PAINFUL, BURNING ACHING SENSATION. WHY THE PAIN GOES DOWN I CAN'T IMAGINE SINCE THEY WENT "UP" TO MY HEART, WHICH BY THE WAY, ALL TESTS SHOWED HEART WAS FINE. COULD THIS BE A NERVE? OR I AM WORRIED ABOUT A BLOOD CLOT. I DID HEMORAGE AFTER THEY STOOD ME UP AFTERWARDS AND THEY APPLIED GREAT PRESSURE TO SPOT FOR A LONG TIME TO STOP THE BLEEDING. THANKS FOR ANY INFO, I AM VERY WORRIED ABOUT THIS. NANCY

Dear Nancy,

Have they done any testing to try to see the cause of the pain?  An ultrasound test would rule out any blood clot, although this is unlikely 10 months after the test.  I suppose they could have 'hit' a nerve putting the catheter in but again it would be unusual to cause pain for almost a year afterwards.  I suppose another test to consider would be an MRI of the area.  If all these are normal you may need to see a pain specialist for a nerve block or some other form of pain management for pain of unclear etiology.

Hello,

It sounds like you are describing the pains caused by sciatica.  I had a case of it that was thankfully cured by a chiropractor.  You should have it checked out by a doctor to see if that's the case.

Cheers,

Rachel

Sciatica goes down the outside of the back of the leg, not the groin/inner thigh. I had a heart catheterization three weeks ago and at first I had a lot of aching in the groin and with activity it went down the inner thigh. Each day that goes by it gets less although I did notice this weekend when at yoga class it got aggrivated. I think there is a nerve in there, I had the same sort of pain at the end of my pregnancies possibly from the baby putting pressure on a nerve. I know about the sciatica pain becasue I had a series of back surgeries at the L-5 S-1 area and have been left with chronic pain. You probably won't get any satisfactory answers from the doctor who did your test as they don't admit nerve damage. Try a neurologist or pain specialist.

THANKS FOR THE RESPONSES. THIS PAIN GOES FROM SITE AT GROIN ALONG FRONT OF LEG TOWARDS INNER LEG AND STRAIGHT TO MY KNEE. A LINE I CAN FOLLOW FROM SITE RIGHT TO KNEE, STRAIGHT SHOT, BURNING, ACHING , THROBBING PAIN ALL DAY LONG. NEVER LETS UP JUST GETS WORSE WITH ACTIVITY. REAL BUMMER. GLAD THEY FOUND HEART TO BE OK, BUT THIS IS BAD TO LIVE WITH EVERYDAY. HAVING A CAT SCAN OR SOMETHING DONE FRIDAY. HAD ULTRA SOUND 3 MONTHS AFTER LOOKING FOR BLOOD CLOT BECAUSE PAIN WAS SO SEVERE. THEY SAID THEY SAW NOTHING. WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM ANYBODY ELSE WHO HAS HAD THIS MUCH PAIN THIS LONG AFTER EP STUDY . THNAKS AGAIN, NANCY

I HAD A HEART CATH ONE MONTH AGO AND AM HAVING AWFUL GROIN PAIN. IT IS WORSE WHEN I ATTEMPT ANY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO SEVERAL DOCTORS AND THEY HAVE ORDERED AN ULTRA SOUND, A CAT SCAN AND NOTHING IS SHOWING UP. THEY PUT IN ONE OF THOSE FRENCH ANGIOSEALS  AFTER THE PROCEDURE. WHAT I AM WONDERING IS, COULD IT BE POSSIBLE THAT I AM ALLERGIC TO THE ANGIOSEAL OR THAT MY BODY IS REJECTING IT. THIS WEEKEND I TRIED TO PLAY GOLF AND THOUGHT I MIGHT END UP IN EMERGENCY BECAUSE THE PAIN GOT SO SEVERE. AM GOING TO SEE A VASCULAR DR. THIS WEEK. SAW A HEART DR. LAST WEEK AND HE DID TELL ME THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG BECAUSE I SHOULD NOT BE HAVING ALL THIS PAIN BUT HE DOESSN'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND THAT HE HAS NEVER IN HIS CAREER COME ACROSS A PATIENT THAT HAS HAD ALL THIS PAIN WEEKS AFTER A HEART CATH.

P.S.  I WAS HAVING CHEST PAINS  SO THAT IS WHY THE HEART CATH WAS ORDERED, BUT IT TURNED OUT THAT I HAVE A BELLY FULL OF GALL STONES. TOO BAD THAT WASN'T DIAGNOSED IN THE FIRST PLACE, THEN I WOULDN'T BE HAVING THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING NOW. WOULD APPRECIATE ANY RESPONCES, THANK YOU, MARSHA
