I was hoping someone can help me with teh pain I am having. I was diagnosed several weeks ago with a dilated left ventricle. I  believe it was 6.3 and the EF was 53%. prior to that I had experienced tightness in my chest.

I have been on Enalapril and digitek for almost a month. Just last week I started getting the tightness or soreness on the left side of my chest, towards the middle near my neck. I also get it on my left shoulder or the left side of chest near my peck muscle and both sides of my neck.

It seems like when this comes on heavy a xanax, which was prescribed to me, lowers the tightness. I played golf last weekend and felt something pull in my left shoulder when i picked up something big.

My question is, how can I determine if the tightness and sometimes heavy soreness is due to the dilated ventricle or a torn muslce/rotator cuff? Does the sensation given off by a dilated ventricle feel like anything specific.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
hollyberry, thanks for the post.

The the ventricles of the heart are the chanmbers that pump blood out of the heart. Usually their function is usually assessed by echocardiography.

A decrease in the ejection fraction doesnt occur out of the blue and if your friends heart function is abnormal it needs further testing. There are multiple causes for decreased function including hypertension, coronary disease and inherited forms to name a few.

Chest pain and symptoms of dizziness (sometimes called presyncope) are very concerning symptoms for someone with abnormal heart function and need to be further evaluated. If your friend continues to have these symptoms he should seek medical evaluation immediately.

If your friend is involvend in competitive sports, he should have a full cardiac evaluation by a cardiologist prior to continuing.

Hope this helps.
