Timing of Afiib Episodes

by rossi, Aug 16, 2003 12:00AM
During the past month or so, my afibs which always occurred during day, has almost stopped (good news) but now I'm getting these bouts at night (bad news). Sometimes they wake me up and sometimes they occur after I get back into bed after a bladder call. I haven't really changed anything in my lifestyle or diet except snacking more in the afternoons in keep my blood sugar up. Any idea on what might have caused this shift so that I can undo it? Thank you.

Rossi,

Rossi, thanks for the post.

There are cycles inherent in the body that cause different basal levels of hormones to be released  at different times of the day. These are known as circadian rhythms and over time can change.  Sometimes these can be reset by a move, travel or stressors in life.

The reason for the shift of your symptoms is unclear. Alot of people notice nighttime symtoms that wake them or occur at the same time.  Most of the time we never understand why.  One thing that may be helpful is to change the time you take any medication you might be on(if you are on an agent) for your atrial fibrillation to a different cycle or to increase the dose.

good luck.
