Ok I think I am getting a hold on this. besides the fact that I am red and burning and I DO NOT HAVE ANY INFECTION and have been through every test for almost a year< i think I found out what is wrong.....I tested positive for CELIAC DESEASE......look it up many people have it and dont even know or are misdiagnosed!  It means I VERY sensitive to GLUTEN, some TOILET PAPER has it in it! Hence the Angel Solf the one I use! I get the paper cuts just like XELA21   I even get then in my anal area!!!! I also get inflamed after sex it burns like hell and one side or all swells! So I am going to try GLUTEN free toilet paper! WISH ME LUCK!!!!.........Please to all you women out there, I suffered for years I am 26 and the docs ignored me, I "ordered them to give me" the blood test to check for gluten intolorance.....CELIAC DESEASE...and I am POSITIVE....now i can change my life and get on track to live a "normal life".............

Please do more reading on Lichen sclerosus before self-diagnosing.  I disagree with maryharry.  Lichen Sclerosus has other symptoms besides fissures.

Fissures are NOT STD related.  My 10 year old daughter has them on occassion and she does not have ANY diseases.  Fissures are a simple skin tear caused by pressure on the skin (i.e. difficulty passing stools), irritation from soaps, detergents, and other possible irritants.   The vaginal/anal/perineum is a sensitive, tender skin area and thus the reason some people get fissures.  (Similiar to anal fissure found internally in the anus caused by hardened stools or difficulty passing stools).

Here are my suggestions for your fissures:
-change your laundry detergent that you use to wash your underwear or pants, (Tide is bad!)
  -use an organic laundry detergent,
  - stop using clothes softener like Bounce,
-use a hypoallergenic soap when showering,
  - don't let shampoo reside reach your vaginal area when rinsing hair,
  - rinse vaginal area last when showering to remove all soap residue,
  - stop wearing underwear or PJ bottoms at night to allow air flow to heal/prevent fissures,
  - use an over-the-counter antibiotic ointment such as Ozonol or Polysporin to heal fissures.

If you are an adult:  Be gentle during intercourse, use an organic lubricant such as Grape Seed Oil (no perfumes etc.) and shower after intercourse.

Your fissures could be allergy related so avoid all perfumes etc. in the area.
Fissures are tears ONLY.  All other symptoms such as redness, puss, sores, itching etc.  is most likely something else such as an STD, yeast infections etc., and you need to see your Doctor.

Changing some of your habits noted above will also help with yeast infections or other allergy related symptoms (most soaps are an irritant to the vaginal area for those who have an allergy sensitivity).

Please note: this is what has worked for me, always check with your Doctor for other possible causes.

Hope this helps!

One more comment to my post above:

I have not completely eliminated the possibility that hormones are/are not related.  My 10 year old daughter is pre-adolescent and showing signs of puberty, the fissures only appeared (for the first time) in the last year.  She also has many allergies.  It is possible that the two are both contributing factors in her fissures.  Nonetheless, my suggestions in my first posting have worked for her.

thanks for your comments.  We get such good ideas and things to check out from everyone on here.  As for me, I'll have to try using something other than tide, been considering trying that BASIC soap instead of the Dove I currently use in the shower.  While I think that hormones definitely have something to do with it...especially if there's no other symptoms (swelling, redness, etc...I won't say itching because mine often itch), I think some of these other ideas are just smart.  But like CLN said, don't do it blindly...do your research!

P.S. I haven't heard of Grape Seed Oil, but I'm interested in finding out more about it!  :)

I have done all the things on your list! Mine come and go! I get red and swell also. I have had every test done from std to yeast. I am a married woman and i am very clean! I think it has to do with celiac desease! I am so sensitve and i hope changing my tolit paper will help! i have irregular period and I also have pimples "rash" on my neck, back and chest! I am going  crazy figuring out if it is all related! My fissures come and go and my sensitivity does also. Do you have any idea if my chest neck and back pimples are related?

by CLN1, Sep 03, 2007 12:28AM
Does your "rash" appear to be like a white or blackhead (pimple) or is it more like exzema (which is usually allergy related).

If it's pimple like, my first thoughts are hormones, especially if they are along your jaw or chin which often indicates hormones or an imbalance of hormones.

It is quite possible that fissures are caused by more than one contributing factor, so I wouldn't eliminate celiac disease as a possible cause.  In fact, I will keep that in mind for my daughter's fissures as celiac disease is in her Dad's side of the family.  Something to think about!

I use Grape Seed Oil to remove my eye make up and moisturize around my eyes at night.  It is also good for dry skin or as a personal lubricant.  And it is all natural!

I am in the process of getting diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and I also have these paper cut-like fissures (as well as many other symptoms).  What they are telling me is either Crohn's disease or Behcet's disease...anyone else, does this sound familiar?
