Am I old enough to be going through menapause at 33?

by shenana, May 16, 2005 12:00AM
I am 33 years old and have been experiencing symptoms that I believe are perimenapause. I have my period every 6 or 7 weeks now instead of every 4. I have mood swings, hot flashes, I have a brownish discharge from my breast if I squeeze them, I do not have the sex drive I used to, I have severe anxiety, I cant think straight at times I feel like my thoughts are foggy, I am very irratible and at times cant hardly stand my self. My mom went through menapause early  and stoped having her period at 38. Do you think this may be what is happening to me?

You could be perimenopausal.  See your doctor to get some feedback and to see how to proceed from here.

You very well could be in perimenopause.  I began having symptoms in my late 30's and have not had a period since I was 37.  I am now 43. My family doctor said I was too young to be in menopause when I first went to him.  He brushed it off and told me it was "stress".  I went to another doctor for a second opinion and she did some bloodwork and called me that evening and told me that I was in menopause. I too, experienced mood swings and there were times I wondered how anyone could be around me as I could not stand myself because of the crankiness I was experiencing.  It is very easy to see if you are in menopause.  A simple blood test will tell your doctor what your hormone levels are at.

I've just been told I am probably perimenopausal I'm 38 - came as a shock - am having hormone tests to see if the Dr can postpone the inevitable. My youngest is 2yrs and I wonder if the late pregancy brought it on. On a good note .... I now know why I have scary palpitations!

To: anyone willing to listen
Hi i am 33yrs and have just been diagnosed with depression but am now thinking it could just be another symptom to go with all the rest. I do still have periods but they come and go as they please sometimes i dont have one for months and then other times i am bleeding for 6/7 wks at a time i have mood swings that send my family into hiding,  dizzy spells and the sweating well good lord i should be 5, but joking aside i do feel that i have most of the symptoms but my doctor just keeps fobbing me off saying i an too young even though i have explained that both my grandmothers were in their mid 30 when they started. thanks for listening.
