visible pulsating artery in right wrist and palm

by bluegal, Jun 08, 2005 12:00AM
I am a 25 year old female.  I have been generally healthy.  I have a pulsating artery in my wrist and palm that has been there since I took some antibiotics over a month ago. I can see every beat that my heart makes (or skips). It is very scary. I have also been having pain in my wrist, arm, and stomach.  I was referred to the cardiologist a few years ago about a heart murmur.  I had EKG and ultrasound, which they said were inconclusive but diagnosed me with mitral valve prolapse because of a possibe bicuspid aortic valve. I don't know if this could be connected.  I have devolped a severe fear of death since the pulsating artery has become visible.  I have seen two family doctors who didnt seem too concerned. Please address what may be causing this.

I can't think of anything dangerous that might be associated, particularly since you have seen 2 doctors who are not concerned.  I highly doubt there can be any association between antibiotics and the artery pulsation.

There is an artery in your wrist that is close to the surface, and in thinner people may be seen pulsating.  I just looked at mine; I can see it, too.  Perhaps you have just noticed this and are overly focusing on its significance.

If your doctors aren't concerned, you should rest your mind about it.  If you can't stop thinking about it, you may be having obsessive thoughts about your health that need to be addressed.  There is a type of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) that is manifested by recurring fears of illness and death.
