ABOUT SINGULAIR

by bony roman, Jul 31, 2007 05:54PM
I HAVE ALERGIC RHINITIS AN MY DOCTOR RECOMENDED ME TO USE SINGULAIR, JUST FOR 5 DAYS BECAUSE I PRESENT SOME RESPIRATORY DISCOMFORT.  IM SO SCARED BECAUSE I READ IN INTERNET MANY NEGATIVE INFORMATION ABOUT IT.  SOME SITES TALK ABOUT CHURG-STRAUSS SYNDROME AND EOSINOPHILIS CONDITIONS.  PLEASE, I NEED ORIENTATION.

THANKS

Child's dose (half) meant a separate prescription for half dose child's pill, do not break an adult pill in half. Just wanted to clear that up.

It makes me really sleepy for 2 hours after I take it. But I can usually fight it and stay awake. Was not tired after the 2nd hour. It really helped me breathe about 15 minutes after I took it same way an inhaler would. It also cut my rhinitis in half. If worried you may also take a child's dose (half) which will help a little but not as well as the full dose.

If you are looking for a more gentle drug ask your doctor about Cromolyn Sodium nebulizer or Intal or NasalCrom. It takes a few days before they work. They calm the rhinitis but won't stop it completely. Administered differently they target different areas. These other drugs above unlike (Singulair once a day) will need to be repeatedly taken 4 times a day because they wear off faster than Singulair. There are so many drugs that work for Rhinitis.

Sorry, I could only add what I did. Don't have info on CHURG-STRAUSS SYNDROME AND EOSINOPHILIS CONDITIONS. Maybe someone else can reply? I am interested in this question too now.

Hi,  I took Singulair for 1 week for adult onset asthma, I ended up in the hospital with foot drop, lower extemity parathesis and paralyzed right hand with high eosinophil count and a diagnosis of Churg Strauss Syndrome.

Be aware of what you put in your mouth as you will ultimately have to live with the consequences.  If the doctor doesn't know the side effects, check the fda's website.  Just be careful.
