Right Abdomen Pain

by eubie, Aug 03, 2007 12:29AM
39 year old female in good health.  I have been feeling terrible for two weeks.  Started in my upper right abdomen right under my ribcage. It is a dull burning pain that radiates to my back and right shoulder.  I also have indigestion and feel very full and sometimes have a pain under my sternum.  Pain is worse after eating, so I haven't not eaten anything solid in three days.  Trying to get some sleep, which is impossible because of the pain.  Had ultrasound two days ago and was negative for gallstones.  Doctor wants to do a hidascan (sp)? to check bile duct function but I have to wait for two weeks!!  Has anyone had this test done and what are the chances it will help me?  Help

I had a HIDAscan done last week, I got the results back two days later and it confirmed my need to get my gallbladder removed.  I also had a "normal" ultrasound but it only showed that the anatomy of the organs are normal. So if anybody is worried about the test at all, don't be.  They put an IV in your arm, inject a dye into the IV, lay you down under this large thing that takes pictures prior to the dye running through your organs, then let you sit for an hour, bring you back on the table under the camera, and inject a radioactive chemical (equivilant to a high fatty meal) into the IV and watch how your liver, and gallbladder react to it.  Mine was semi painfull, just because it proved the problem to be there (it hurt when the chemical was added). But it did confirm my needing my gallbladder out, so i guess all is well, because i will be rid of my pain!!!
