Pain and weakness

by JMB, Jan 18, 2002 12:00AM
Four years ago I had a lumpectomy and axillary disection, radiation and chemo.  Since that time I have had Restless Leg Syndrome, Fibromylgia, Congestive Heart Failure, Blood Clot, Elevated Liver Ensymes, etc.

Recently I starting having pain and weakness in my arm.  Could this be Lymphedema?  Any suggestions for relief or what I should do would be appreciated.

Dear JMB, Lymphedema is an abnormal build-up of fluid that causes swelling, most often in the arms or legs. Lymphedema develops when lymph vessels or lymph nodes are missing, impaired, damaged or removed.

The pain and weakness that you are experiencing could be due to surgery and/or a long term effect from radiation therapy, it could also be due to any number of other causes.  The first step in treatment would be an evaluation of these symptoms.  This evaluation would start with a review of the complete history of the pain and weakness, and physical examination.
