chances??

Just wanted to know what the chances are that a lump on a mammogram that has "none of the characteristics" of cancer, would come back positive for cancer on a biopsy?  i am trying to cover all bases here before i go for mine (because they are still insisting on one)!  i would love to go in there with a "i know there is nothing wrong" attitude, but its hard!
Thank you!

Dear bethme:  It is nearly impossible to guess at the outcome of a biopsy result.  Presumably, the biopsy is being done "just to be safe," which suggests that the odds are good that the biopsy will be negative.  The flip side is that there is reason enough to do a biopsy so one can never guarantee negativity.
