I am 47 yrs & on fa side have had 3 aunts with breast cancer. Mothers has about 1/2 of breast due to benign tumors. On mothers  side her sister & 2 grt. aunts had breast cancer. My father has bladder cancer & having bladder removed next month, stage 3, he has also had right breast removed.  I have always had normal mamograms yearly, have taken premarin since 1990.

My  mamogram results:  Camparison with previous. Examination performed with CAD analysis. Very dense irregular fibroglandular parenchyma is bilaterally with fibronodular pattern. slighlty moreglandular tissues & densities noted on left.Group of small calcifications seen in upper outer quadrant of right breast.Number of calcifications have increased somewhat comparing to previous studies.  No other suspicious microcalcification clusterings other wish noted.Axillary lymph nodes seen bilaterally.  Impression: Slight parenchymal asymmetry.  Group of small calcification in the upper outer quadrant of right breast.Recommend patient return for additions views of right breast including coned down spot maginfication view for better  analysis. No other mammographic finding of definite malignancy or other significant interval changes other wise noted comparing to previous previous mammograms.

I had this test on 3/22 and am scheduled for the cone test on 3/30.I am very concerned about this & do not quite understand the results.I have not felt any lumps & my breasts are only sometimes painful. Can you please explain the results in more of a laymans terms & what to expect with next test.Thank you so much for this website.

Dear grahmmy:  The results indicate some calcifications that have increased in number since an earlier exam and very dense tissue that is assymetrical (meaning - the character of the desity is not consistent).  Tissue density can also make a mammogram difficult to interpret.  Calcifications, if they grow in clusters, can grow around areas of concern.  The purpose of this repeat procedure is to get a better look at the area.  You can expect a procedure similar to the mammogram except that a smaller paddle will be used. The technician will be focusing on the area that the radiologist wants to see magnified.  This is not at all uncommon and does not necessarily mean cancer.  It simply means they need to get a better look at an area.

Hi Grahmmy,

I just received a call today from a mamagraphy I had done on March 24th. They said the radiologist reviewed the results and wants me to come in for more tests. I didn't ask any additional questions. The person who called was very eager to get me in the next day. We settled on Thursday.  I was wondering if you received any results from your March 30th appt. ?

I will pray for you.

Just received a follow up call from my doctors office. There are calcifications in mass form.  My Test is tomorrow. I will keep you informed.

Best of luck to all of us.
