Treatment for Ovarian Cysts

by Heather428, Aug 15, 2005 12:00AM
Back in June I went to the ER for severe lower back pain.  I was treated with antibiotics and told I probably had a UTI, though I had no regular UTI symptoms.  It was determined after the fact that I never had a UTI and the cause of my back pain was not determined.  Now, two months later, I still have lower back pain for which I am taking pain killers (over the counter) several times daily.  Mainly my back pain is on the right but now starting on the left also.  My PCP sent me for a renal and pelvic ultrasound which revealed normal kidneys and bladder, but cystic ovaries.  My right ovary has a cyst which has septated (not sure what this means), and measures about 6.5 x 5.5 cm.  My left ovary has several cysts measuring around 2-3 cms each, which the Radiologist said were not concerning.  I was told to come back for re-evaluation in 6 weeks and told that the cysts should burst (rupture), and resolve on their own.  However, my back pain is now substantial and I am getting shooting pains in my abdomen also.  Is this related?  Can cysts cause back pain?  Should I just wait this out?  I have a bleeding disorder (von Willebrand's).  Should I be concerned about the cyst rupturing because of the von Willebrand's?  My last period lasted only part of a day, which is very uncommon for me.  Can your period be affected by cysts?
