Lumpectomy

Hi, I am a little nervous about my upcoming surgery to have a large lump removed from my left breast, upper outer quadrant.

I first noticed the lump 1 yr ago when I finished nursing my daughter the lump was drained and it was a galactocele cyst. 6 mon later this lump reappeared I put it off thinking it was the cyst again.  It was getting bigger and bigger and thought I better have it looked at.  My Dr. was unable to aspirate sent me for an ultrasound and discovered it was a solid mass and thought maybe a fibroadenoma??  I was seen by a surgeon and he wants to remove and biopsy instead of a needle biopsy.I am curious if anyone has seen or heard of a cyst turning into anything else both my Dr. and the surgeon cannot explain it to me.

Dear jammin:  Cysts by definition, are benign.  This new growth may not have anything to do with the cyst.  By removing the lump, the doctors will know what it is and will be better able to explain at that point.
