I'm frightened

I went to my Dr. this morning for a routine exam and she said some of the tissue on my left breast close to my armpit had an edge feel to it and that I should go get it checked out.  I don't have any pain and I don't feel any difference between my two breasts at all.  Should I be worried?  I'm signed up for a mammogram in a couple of weeks.

Dear tamodeez:  Without doing a breast examination, it is impossible to speculate on what this might be.  Certainly, breasts can feel lumpy and be completely okay.  However, if your doctor has felt something unusual, it requires further investigation.  A second opinion from a medical breast specialist may be appropriate.  These are located at major medical centers.
