no lump but have minor pain in one breast

I can't find a breast lump, but my one breast has been a little sore for that last few months. My nipple is somewhat sensitive when I take shower and the water hits it. I get bad PMS where both breasts swell and become hard and painful 1 week or 2 before my period, but the other one is fine after the period ends. The area around the nipple is just slightly different than the other side (not quite as round and symetrical) I had a breast exam at my doctor's recently and he didn't say he found anything. I'm 30 with no family history. I also never had a mammogram. Should I be concerned?

Dear sunflower21:  It is not unusual for young women to have breast pain in the week or two prior to their menstrual cycle.  In addition, these pains may not be identical in both breasts.  If there is no lump and your doctor has not found anything, it is unlikely that this is related to cancer.  However, if you are concerned, you might benefit from seeing a medical breast specialist to address the pain and discomfort.  These are often affiliated with major medical centers.
