Stage 3 Breast Cancer

by floodbaby, Mar 08, 2006 12:00AM
My mom has just been diagnosed with a Stage 3 Breast Cancer. I read on the Oncologist's referral slip that he could not perform a biopsy because it was bleeding and that it was fungating and ulcerating. I don't fully understand what this means but it also said in the slip that Cobalt and preoperative Chemotherapy are needed. I'm in the dark. Please explain to me what's going on. If there are things I should expect and do, what are these?

Dear floodbaby:  A fungating and ulcerating tumor means that the cancer has broken through the skin on the breast and would appear like an open wound.  In this situation, radiation therapy and chemotherapy are often given first to attempt to control the local tumor.  If the tumor responds well to the treatment surgery to remove the breast may be done later.  One question you might ask is whether any other scans of the rest of your mother's body have been done to determine if there is any spread.  If the disease has spread outside the breast area, this could be stage 4 disease.  The exact protocol (chemotherapy and radiation therapy) will be determined by the radiation oncologist and the medical oncologist.  This information willl help you know what to expect.

I've read through several write-ups and documentaries that fatalities pose as a big problem. What are the chances of survival for a stage 3 breast cancer? The cancer has not spread, it was miraculously contained in my mother's left breast. Chemotherapy and Cobalt treatment are being arranged for the soonest time possible.

Dear Sirs/Madam

My mother is 56 years old women. She has Breast cancer in her right Breast and 7 of lumps under right hand and did cancer at Sep. 2001. It is done chemotherapy monthly from Oct. 2001 to Mar. 2002. Then it is done radiotherapy 25 days in her cancer area.

After radiotherapy her hand and arm had struma therefore it did physiotherapy.

At sep. 2004 under her right hand there was a 0.5 cm3 tumor with secretion. After second chemotherapy from Oct. 2004 to Mar. 2005 (Xeloda+Texotere) it did radiotherapy for 1 month. After that her hand, fingers and arm didn’t have feeling and didn’t work. Also she has eaten xeloda tablets and Gaba pantin 450 ml.

At Sep. 2005 Bone scan by Tc-MDP images, is shown increased uptake on right ant. 9th and 10th ribs and right ankle. Therefore it is done chemotherapy from Nov. to Feb. 2005(for 4 month; 2 week per month).

Now her right hand, fingers and arm doesn’t have feeling and doesn’t work. Neurologists said that it is because of radiotherapy (radiotherapy cause the sticking of neurons in her  Subscapular bone).

I am in darkness. Please help me about that is there need more treatments about her bone metastases or it is immedicable?

Is there her hand remediable?

I am Ph.D. student in south of France. Please help me about best clinic or doctors addresses in south France (Nice, Monaco, Toulose, Lyon, Monthpolye, …)about Breast cancer.

If you need more information I will send you.

Thank you in advance for your helps

I shall be looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely yours

Zaman
