What is a partial mastectomy?

Dear gmachris:  A partial mastecomy generally removes the cancerous tissue, some healthy surrounding tissue, some skin and some lining over the chest wall underneath the tumor.  In addition, there are usually some lymph nodes removed.  In contrast, a lumpectomy removes only the lump and some of the healthy surrounding tissue.
