Breast Discomfort

by MisGTO68, Sep 06, 2006 12:00AM
I am 41 Yrs young.  I have always had some slight discomfort in the breasts just prior to and a couple days into starting my period.

The same has been true for this month, however, the discomfort has migrated toward painful and has been this way for about 1 week now.  My nipples hurt just to look at them - there is no discharge from the nipple.

I have had my first mammogram last year, but have not been in for one yet this year.  Everything was normal in the first mamm.

I realize this isnt much info to go on, but any advise or reaction would be GREATLY appreciated...Thank You

Dear MisGTO68, Breast pain is a common breast symptom.  The reason for breast pain is not clearly understood, and is not usually associated with breast cancer.  Breast pain is sometimes associated with hormonal variations and is then called cyclical breast pain.  Noncyclical breast pain does not seem to be linked to hormonal variations and is often localized to one area of the breast tissue.  Noncyclical breast pain may or may not be the result of an injury to the breast.

If your symptoms continue and you continue to be concerned you may want to check with your doctor so they can evaluate.

Any chance of being pregnant? Any swelling of the breast?

Hi Misgt068 your not alone

I am also 40 and have had the same symptoms as you.

Mine started a few years ago with increasing pain every year they swell up a couple weeks before my mentral cyle begins and once my period starts the tenderness goes down. My doctors have told me is has to do with hormone changes in my body and I take 400mg Mortrin for the swelling. The only way I can describe it is when I was pregnant and just after giving birth the breasts swell and are like rocks with out the bra very painful to the touch. This is what I go through every month Im hoping it will go away (maybe after menopause) :)

hopefully this is what your issue is and nothing more serious.

I hope this helps you a bit to know your not alone.

But if you are worried ask your doctor and maybe he can answer your questions. I also have had mammograms and ultrasounds on both breasts for the past couple of years. Try not to worry :)

Same here...started getting worse around 40 years old. Sometimes just wearing a bra is painful and riding in the car. Ouch! : ) It is 'normal' though and no cause for worry. Isn't it fun getting older!?!

Thank You! everyone...

No, no chance of being pregnant.  If so I would have to sue my significant others doctor (snip, snip);)

I guess there is some swelling, not that I really noticed - I am very well endowed to begin with...sucks getting older.  Mentally, I feel 20 - physically, on certain days, I feel 100.

I am due for my female physical soon.  I will consult the doc then...Thanks again for the feedback, I really appreciate it.

I have a feeling I have begun "the change".  My mom went through her change when she was 31...YIKES
