condyloma (genital warts) after childbirth

by chelsea13, Aug 24, 2005 12:00AM
I've been married for almost 10 years

and recently had a baby - two weeks ago.

I began having some pain in the clitoris area.

Thinking it was a tear, I went to the doctor

to look at. He said it is not a tear but

condyloma (genital warts). I am very

surprised because I have never had

symptoms before. The doc says my immune

system is probably low because i just had

a baby and this is common. He indicated it

may go away on its own and if it doesn't he

will prescribe cream.

I looked it up on the internet and saw that

this infact is sexually transmitted. i am getting

freaked out about this. has anyone had this

problem after childbirth and if so did it go

away on its own? your thoughts are

appreciated!

HI DON'T BE GETTING UP SET,O.K. YOUR DOCTOR DIDN'T EXPLAIN ANOTHER REASON WHY YOU HAD THEM EITHER.I HAD THEM WHILE I WAS PREGNANT,WITH MY FIRST CHILD MY HUSBAND IS VERY FAITHFUL LIKE AN OLD HOUND DOG.MY DOCTOR SAID IT WAS FROM WHERE I WAS HAVING EXTRA DISCHARGE AND BEING MORE WETTER THAN USUAL.YOU HAVE ALL SO BEEN THAT WAY SINCE GIVING BIRTH.MINE WENT AWAY WHEN MY HORMONES GOT REGULATED.MY DOCTOR TOLD MY HUSBAND TO MAKE SURE HE WORE A CONDOM,SO THAT HE WOULDN'T BE COME INFECTED.ALL SO HE WOULDN'T REINFECT ME ONCE THEY WHERE OVER.THEY WILL GO AWAY ON THERE ON,DON'T BE EMBARASSED YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG IT IS JUST YOUR HORMONES WORKING THEM SELVES BACK OUT.YOU'LL BE O.K HON JUST TAKE CARE OF YOUR BABY AND YOUR SELF AND YOU'LL SEE.TNT406

Just a question to go with this for me....Warts because of horomones? Could it also be a side effect of a type of birth control and all the horomones that are in that? I realize the horomones of being pregnant are a bit more strong than birth control but still could it be a reaction to the type of birth control, the horomones in it have that type of reaction to my body?

Uh, you don't get HPV from hormones or being wetter than normal. HPV is an incredibly common sexually transmitted disease, and just about every sexually active person has contracted at least one strand of it. You can go for years, even forever, without ever having symptoms (so don't think this is a sign that either of you have been with anyone else), but your lowered immune system during and after pregnancy can trigger an outbreak. Don't freak. It's a sure thing your husband already has it, btw, so no worries about transmission at this point.

Look at it this way - the strands that cause visible genital warts, just cause visible warts. That's it. If you contracted it from someone sneezing on you, it'd be treated like the total non-event it really is. Check out the STD board for much, much more information.

Thanks so much for your comments. I'm trying not to get too stressed about it, but I am a high stress personality!

Once the outbreak goes away, will it be safe to have unprotected sex again? I don't want my husband to contract the warts too. Now that I have had an outbreak I worry this will reoccur. Is it possible to go dormant again for many years?

Also, we might want to try for a second child in the not so distance future. I'm afraid this will cause problems in getting preganant. Of course I read too much on the internet and did see HPV is sometimes linked to cervical cancer. Am I getting too crazy here?!? I will check out the STD board for more info.

You can probably have sex with him now, because it's a sure thing he already has it. And once you have it, you can't get it again. It's just that his immune system is probably just keeping him from developing any symptoms :-)

As for cervical cancer, the strands that cause visible warts don't cause cancer, so that's not a concern. Besides, as long as you get regular pap smears it's really not a worry anyway, because cervical cancer is very treatable when caught early. You can definitely not worry about getting pregnant again :-)

Does anyone have an opinoin on using cream vs. waiting it out for genital warts to go away on their own?

My doc said I may want to wait a few weeks to see if they go away. Do you think I should start cream now? I've heard the cream burns alot. Any thoughts on which type of cream is best to use?

For myself i don't think that i should wait for it to go away, since they spread very easy, and i have seen some nasty pics online of how ugly it can get if you don't treat fast. I would use the cream even if it burns.

THE QUESTION IS

WHICH CREAM IS THE BEST ONE????????????????

BY THE WAY, WITH ALL MY RESEARCH I THINK THE BEST WAY TO THE FREEZE THEM UP. GO TO THE DOCTOR AND TELL TO FREEZE THEM AND TO EXPLAIN IT.

HE/SHE WILL PUT NITROGEN INTO ALL WARTS
