Tinder Armpits w/ moveable lumps

by Nat30, Jan 01, 2007 12:00AM
I am 30 yrs old female, I do not have indented armpits, I have skin that is full and pokes out even when arms are down by my side.  My OB/GYN & Family DR and previouly Navy DR's says it's Excessive Breast Tissue.  Though un sightly, My main concern is the lumps I feel in each armpit. The lumps have gotten bigger over the last 10-12 years.  They can be moved around & are tender to touch.  The lumps can be pinched between fingers, because of the way my skin comes out instead of in.  But hurts to pinch them. Don't know who else to ask about this?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Dear Nat30:  Many women have lumpy breast tissue and if this tissue extends up into the armpit, this could explain the lumpiness.  Breast tissue can also be painful to touch, particularly during certain times of the menstrual cycle.  You may want to have your doctor do an examination if you have not done so recently.

Do these lumps get bigger during your period?  I know that I get swelling of my lymph nodes at times during my cycle.  Could it possibly be fatty deposits?  Usually things that move and cause pain aren't signs of cancer, however, only a doctor can know.  Go see an OB/GYN and see if you can get a mammogram to put your fears to rest.

I never noticed if they got Bigger during periods.. Just know the've gotten bigger over the years.  Have seen Dr's about them.. NO Dr has ever seemed concerned... They always just dismiss it has fatty breast tissue.  If it's tender ... should'nt there be a reason for the tenderness???

Like I said, mine only get tender during my periods.  What did the doctor say when you told him/her that they are tender?  I would contribute it to swelling, but, if it is like that all the time, I don't have any ideas.

I also have the lumps in both armpits and it has been confirmed that it is excessive breast tissue.  Mine is usually tender - worse around my period.  This is because it is breast tissue and it reacts to your hormones - just like breasts! Mine has gotten to be quite large and noticeable if I hold up my arms.  I've had several doctors assure me that it is quite normal, often runs in families, and has nothing to do w/your lymph nodes.
