When seeking help, I was told the DBT classes was best for people with BPD, however in my area they do not have the classes for people who are in private therapy, nor do any of the local hospitals, beside seeing a terapist and Pdoc, what other help can you sujest for people with BPD to learn how to deal with disorder and gain control over their life. I know you can go to the local mental health, but there you have to use their doctors and terapist, and having done that and felt more confortable with private practice. I trust both Doctors I have know and have been with them for awhile and am unconfortiable changing.

Lillian,

It is helpful that you feel comfortable with your current doctors. Different forms of psychotherapy can be useful in people with Borderline Personality Disorder, to manage crises, as well as developing long term coping skills. There is no singular medical treatment for borderline personality per se, but certain medications may help with symptoms of the illness, or help with conditions that often accompany it (such as depression, impulsivity, or mood lability). Antidepressants and/or mood stabilizers may diminish impulsivity, anxiety, and mood symptoms.
