Missing period and abdominal pain

by Lara315, Sep 19, 2006 12:00AM
I had an abortion in May, but I have not gotten my period again since.  The last few months when it should be time for my period, I have been getting REALLY bad lower abdominal pains.  Not like regular menstrual cramps.  Last month I went to the hospital because I thought it was my appendix.  They tested for STDs, pregnancy and even did a sonogram.  The only thing they could find was a slight bladder infection.  After 10 days on antibiotics I was feeling much better, but this month the same thing happened.  It is time for my period, but it's a no show, and instead I have these horrible abdominal pains.  What else could be the cause?

This question is out of my expertise. Write to a gynecologist on the team, or better yet go see one. I am a strong believer in second opinions! But I am not sure what is going on here and don't want to hazard a guess. Sincerely, Pepper Schwartz

This is really a forum for relationship and sexuality issues, so the moderator may not have a medical answer for you.

You should go back to see your regular gyn.  Some of your symptoms could be from pelvic inflammatory disease, or from some other medical problem.  If you do not have a doctor, go to a health clinic or Planned Parenthood or your local health dept.
