vaginal bleeding

by MaryKath, Oct 09, 2006 12:00AM
I recently started taking birth control pills three months ago.  I took the pills regularly but missed a couple of times, making up for it by taking the missed pills as soon as possible.  I got my period on time but haven't stoped bleeding for three weeks now.  The bleeding is heavy, i have to wear a tampon every day. Could this be a sign of pregnancy, miscarraige, std? I have no other symptoms except the constant bleeding.  I have not fully abstained from sexual intercourse.

Go see a doctor. You shouldnt be bleeding this long. Your hormone system is probably all confused from the way you have been taking the pills. I am not qualified to tell you why you are bleeding - but I do know that you should see someone and get an examination right away.

The bleeding should subside soon.  You probably have a period as well as breakthrough bleeding b/c you threw off your cycle by missing the pills a couple of times.  Messing w/the hormones can do funny things to our body.  Relax.

If you have been on the pill that long missing 2 pills should not cause this kind of problem. If it is heavy fresh blood then you need to go in and have it checked. It is most likely something as simple as needing the dosage changed. But by no means is having heavy bleeding normal with birth control pills. Just think of it this way, if you were not on the pill would you let a 3 week long period go without going to the doc? And yes messing with your hormones can thro your system off but if the dosage is right you should not have this kind of problem.
