Hormone Level Results Query

by Jordy, Oct 13, 2006 12:00AM
Hello, quick question.

I had the full gauntlet of hormone tests done recently just to rule out possible causes for sexual issues.  Yesterday, I received the results from my dr's nurse because he was gone for the day (after he called me first), so she told me that after consulting with two other doctors on staff about my results that it is clear I am normal on all levels.  Okay, sounds good; today I swung by to pick up a written copy of the specifics and check it out myself.

Everything DOES seem within normal range, however I have one concern.  I was in my luteal phase at the time of tests (about day 20 or 21), and my FSH level was tested at 2.0 which is within normal range, but my LH is 1.4 and according to the form, normal range should have at least started at 2.7.  Yet two doctors and a nurse confirmed EVERYTHING is normal. My progesterone (21.67), estrogen (131), testosterone (66), dhea (308), SHBG (53), and FAI (4.3) were all clearly within normal, average range.

So is a slightly lower LH level considered okay if everything else is perfect?  I do know that hormones fluctuate like crazy; I just figured this one test would at least determine if there is a blatant and obvious problem, which there doesn't seem to be.

I likely will definitely call my doctor back next week and try to speak directly to him about this, but for now I'm really wondering, IS this okay?  Oh, I'm 34 and very fit and healthy, with very, very regular cycles.  These tests were done a month and a half after coming off the pill; maybe that has something to do with it?

Oh, just one more thing...when I said I have very regular periods, I was not speaking specifically of just when I was on the pill.  I was only on recently for about 10 months, very low dose (Alesse), and my cycles immediately went back to normal during my first pill-free month (even since the test I've had one more normally timed period.)  And I very obviously ovulated the week before this test was done (I have very noticeable symptoms.)

So with that information, does that LH seem normal for that phase?
