Combo pill as EC

I am on the combination birth control pill and was recently diagnosed with strep throat and given antibiotics for treatment. After taking the antibiotics for three days, I had sex with my boyfriend. By then, I was taking the iron pills and was on the twenty-first day of my cycle. I remembered the day after we had sex that antibiotics could interfere with your birth control (which they were because I was spotting), so I researched using my combo pills as an emergency contraceptive. I took the two suggested doses, three pills at a time, one dose at night and one in the morning, but I haven't had my period yet. Should I be worried about this? Was my cycle thrown off by taking all those hormones right before my period?

You probably just threw your cycle off by taking all those pills. It wasn't necessary. Studies have shown that aside from rifamprin, antibiotics do NOT affect the pill.



And before someone posts about their cousin's exboyfriend's Aunt Betty, who got pregnant while on antibiotics and the pill, remember that the pill isn't 100% effective. Studies have found that the same percentage of women NOT on antibiotics get pregnant while on the pill...
