STD Risk!!

by PartyJim12, Nov 27, 2006 12:00AM
Recently i gave a brief (3 min. or so) oral sex to my girlfriend. I was not aware of risks of this. I've been worrying about this alot, but am i really at a large risk of getting a std or hiv from only like 3 min. of giving it? Thanks for any insight you can give me on this matter.

Yes, you are at risk, although oral sex is not the highest risk of sexual activity. ( Anal sex if much more risky) Nonetheless, there are easy transmissions of sexual diseases that can happen as soon as flesh touches flesh. It is easy to contract herpes that way, less easy ( or at least many fewer instances ) of contracting HIV orally. Still, if you have any cuts in your mouth, ( or gums)  or she does you are introducing the possiblity of blood born bacteria or virus- and some viruses - just need skin contact to be contracted.

I don't want to get you upset- but go see a doctor to make sure you haven't picked up anything. A better way to approach this would be to go together to see a doctor, get a clean bill of health and then be monogamous together. You can be safe then if you both honor that agreement.

Oral in general and particularly on women carries virtually no risk. Relax. And if it helps, I don't know anyone who uses condoms/dental dams for oral ;-)

It is possible to contract certain STDs, but you would have to swallow an IMMENSE amount of bodily fluid to contract AIDS I believe. However, you both should go to a clinic and be tested before engaging in any more sexual conduct together just to be on the safe side ... when you continue to get intimate (even if it is only oral sex thus far), the likelihood to giving into intercourse in the heat of passion increases, and you should both know that the other is "clean" before engaging in intercourse together. Best wishes!

you say girlfriend. how long have you been together? have you discussed previous sexual history? i bet you have nothing to worry about other than her being upset you dont trust her

Relax, it is highly unlikely you can contract std through oral.  I agree with Monkeyflower.  I have never used protection when engaging in oral and I don't know anyone who has.

if she's your 'girlfriend' than you should have an idea of her sexual health. maybe you should get to know her better. the above poses no risk!

Relax, oral sex is essentially zero risk.  Check the STD forum, as Dr. Hansfield has stated this several times.  He's a well known, well educated Professor on STI's and other health issues.

I think you'd benefit from visiting the STD board. Dr. Handsfield really knows his stuff.
