Herpes

by MonsterLove, Jul 15, 2007 12:00AM
I have had herpes for about 4 years now (female. )I have a few of questions.
1) I have heard there may be a cure for it in a few years.  Do you know anything?
2) If there is a chicken pox vaccine, why can't there be a herpes vaccine?
3) Why isn't blood regularly checked for herpes at an STD clinic?
4) Why aren't doctors better trained to recognize the symptoms, especially since 50% of men claim they have no symptoms and are surprised when their woman says they got it from them?
Seems like a lot of vague men's penis syptoms might warrant a blood test.
5) I have constant neuralgia in my lower back with burning/aching.  My doctor suggested gabapentin.  I really only broke out once so don't take the other meds, but my lower back kills me like the neruralgia of shingles..I don't want to take gabepentin due to the horrible side effects...I have given up on sex so don't need to take the other meds, but wondering if they might relieve that hot, weird nerve pain?
6) I've joined antopia.com for a love connection but would worry about getting herpes in a new location.  I understand that it usually flares up in the same nerve location and since it is just on my legs, I wouldn't want to get it vaginally.
7) First tested positive IGM and told man; man then tested positive; year lated he tests negative so says he didn't give it to me.  His doctor supports his denial.  Why?

There is a great STD channel on medhelp.com and this is JUST the kind of question that should go to them. They are specialists- I am not - so please redirect it to Hunter Hansfield on the std site and your questions can get answered

OK, I see Dr. HHH website, but maybe the sociologist can discuss the emotional impact of a life-long STD.  At first, I was in shock and depressed for months.  It took me a long, long time to recover my balance.  It's like my choices are now limited for ever finding true love.

Don't worry about trying to find true love. I am 40 and healthy and I have never found true love. Actually there are websites that you can search for others with std's.

I am a studnet working toward my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy.  I am currently studying human sexuality and am interested in writing a paper on the emotional impact of a life-long STD from a sociological perspective.  Could you point me in the direction of references that may be of interest to me.
