Nodule Growth - Is this a concern?

by Bev2, Aug 02, 2005 12:00AM
What would be considered suspicious, rapid growth of a nodule?  Per ultrasound reports, my nodule doubled in size (vol.)in 5 months.  The length increased by 1 cm.  Should I be concerned? Is that unusual or rapid growth?  The FNA that was done almost 1 year ago was a "suboptimal aspirate". I am waiting to hear from my Dr. who has been very slow to respond.

Bev-I'm not an expert but I am 8 days postop for thyroid lobectomy. My guess is that yes, that is pretty substantial growth of a nodule. My last ultrasound showed an increase of .4 cm increase in length in a year's time. A biopsy showed some 'suspicious' cells, and surgery was recommended. I also was having trouble swallowing and my voice was somewhat hoarse.  Fortunately, surgery went smoothly and the cells were benign "giant" cells. My hormone levels were always normal.

Let us know what your dr. says.
