VERY affectionate son...

by kbee4ever, Aug 04, 2007 12:41PM
Hi.My son 9..Is very affectionate with me.I was abused as a child so when I became a mommy I made sure that I knew all of the signs of abuse.when he was 5 he started  kissing me a lot so I had talks with him about child abuse.as It turned out some other kid was trying to teach him how to kiss..anyways since he was born I have taught him about abuse. My thing is he stopped all the kissing for a few years and has just started again. He usually does it when he wants something like extra computer time.I don't know if it is usual or not.He kisses me like 4 times a day just out of the blue not when leaving or something.
Since I have my history I wonder if I am being paranoid.I do still have those talks with him but only like two times a year as I don't want to scare him....What do you think?

If by kissing you mean just the normal, 'peck' on the cheek (not something like going for a tongue kiss in your mouth) then not only is it normal, it's wonderful! You've done an amazing job of letting him be comfortable expressing his feelings and encouraging affection (some lucky woman and his future kids will thank you later!) If it is more adult type kissing, then I'd be worried since 9 yr. olds generally don't know about that.  I'd continue to happily accept his kisses, but as a side note, let him know that extra kisses isn't a way to get what he wants- you just enjoy them.
