Mid Life Crisiss

My wife of 19 years two years started to change. We have a 12 year old daughter who is hanicapped and requires constant attention. Two years ago my wife started to say she felt TRAPPED. Then she staretd to change...loss of weight 30-50 pounds, dressing younger, tanning,  taking diet pills and informing me that she no longer had feelings for me.  She slowly pulled away from our kids.  At the same time a friend of ours said somthing that caused her to feel that he had feelings for her...he doesnt' but in her mind she wishes he did.  Ive been told that she seems Narcissistic...only thinks about herself and no one else.  She now wants out of our marraige.  Ive been taking care of our kids for the past two years..to give her break. She wants to start a new life. Wants to get her youth back. She is mid 40's and Ive been told that her mother went thru her change about the same age of my wife.  Any ideas on what I an do.. She also sees a councilor once every week.

Dear Joe

It is difficult to diagnose your wife with a specific mental disorder from the information that was provided. She may be reacting to the dissatisfaction in her life. Psychotherapy (marital therapy, family therapy) by a trained Mental Health Professional would be helpful. I wish you all the best.

Sincerely

HFHS-M.D.
