Mood swings/ anxiety

by Janice, Jun 16, 2000 12:00AM
I have severe mood swings. At the time I have reacted angrily to something, no one can change my mind...i am completely irrational. later when i have had time to calm down on my own, i realize that my behavior didn't make sense. alot of times i react angrily to silly things or am frustrated VERY easily. I will cry like it's the end of the world. Also, I have what I think are anxiety attacks. I am stressed out very easily and have been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome because of the stress. I don't have a lot of motivation, I procrastinate...There has to be something wrong. What could this be? If I don't find out how to control it, it will end up having a very negative effect on my life.

Janice,

Its impossible for me to give you a diagnosis based on what you have related.  It is clear that there is irritability, anxiety and anger causing you great distress.  I suggest that you have a formal psychiatric evaluation to clarify this issue.  It will be helpful for your psychiatrist to know if there is a family history of similar behavior or other known psychiatric illness.  After this is completed then specific recommendations can be made.

Sincerely,

HFHS MD-JM
