Transitioning from Zoloft to Prozac

by pacose, Aug 26, 2004 12:00AM
I have been on Zoloft for over 7 years, at various doses, as high as 200 for several years.  In the last 4 weeks, I have been at 75 mg, because I was started on Lithium.

I am not on lithium anymore.

I am transitioning from Zoloft to Prozac and would like if you could tell me how that transition should take place, in terms of balance, in weeks 1 and 2.

My doctor has said to move to 50 of zoloft and 10 mg of prozac, week 1.

25 mg of zoloft and 10 mg, still, in week 2.

Then he begins the next increase.

I was also low on thryoid, and I am on a .5 dosage of synthroid, for the next 4 weeks, at least.

Thanks for the input. I am feeling so bad right now emotionally, that I am concerned with waiting over two weeks, at 10 mg of Prozac.

I just began the Prozac on Tuesday, only 2 days ago.

That is a reasonable schedule, but after the first week, you could ask him re accelerating the dose of prozac since it is quite an easy transition between these two medications.

Thanks for that answer. The pharmacologist today said also that I could go to 20 mg of the prozac, since my system has had Zoloft in it for so many years.  Appreciate the same 2nd opinion!
