swollen lymph nodes in armpit

yesterday i woke up with my armpit hurtings as if there was a bruise. when i got home from work it was swollen. i went to see the NP today. she said that it was a swollen lymph node. she asked if i have been sick recently and the answer is no. later on tonight my left armpit is hurting the same way. it is starting to swell as well. when she felt it today there was nothing wrong with the left armpit. my breast are fine, no lumps. she seemed scared, but the doctor would not approve of an ultrasound unless it is still there next week. she said that if things get worse to call ASAP. am i being paranoid and what could these tender swollen lymph nodes be. i had a HIV test done in july 25th. please let me know as soon as possible. thank you for your support.

it could be a pilonidal cyst- they usually occur on the tailbone; but they can occur in the armit or near the vagina as well. if this is the case, you must get medical help soon because it could have abcessed which means it is spreading infection to your body.

luckily some cysts don't need to be completely removed, merely drained.

The NP said to make contact if there was ANY change. I think it moving to the other armpit is definitely a change. CALL THEM TODAY. And if the Doctor wants to wait then find another. You are the boss. Don't let him intimidate you. Good luck and keep us posted please.

thank you for your advice! i really appreciate it! the pain and swelling got worse... i went to the ER. the doc said that everything came back neg in my blood test. he has reason to believe that i am coming down with Mono. i have to be seen again in 3-5 days. thank you all very much!

hi everyone i wondered if you could help me. i have been suffering from a cold now for about 3 days. this morning when i got up i felt a lump under my arms which is very sore when i touch it. i'am just wondering what it could be caused with please help very worried

I am a Massage therapist and swollen Lymph nodes are not unusual especially if you're under the weather masage them so they will drain.  and drink plenty of fluid after doing so

It is probably just caused from the cold/flu, but no one here is a doctor and cannot tell you how to treat an undiagnosed condition. If you are really worried, or in pain, you should see you doctor.

I have a swollen lymph node in my armpit it is very tender. I have been examined twice.There is no infection or burning or redness what could this be?

well i will tell ya something...a couple of years ago i noticed the same thing...a swollen occassionally sore lymphnode.  i put it off for a whole year or more cause my mom had recently died of cancer and other complications and at that time i just didnt want to know.  when i finally went in to see my general surgeon to see about having it removed he had them do a bunch of tests and blood work and everything came out negative.  when they took it out Dec 06 the checked it right away and let me know there was no cancer which was a weight off my mind.  but then they wanted me to go in for several other tests that lasted a few months.  apparently there was a form of fungus that is found around cedar trees...i dont remember the name of it, but somehow i had gotten in contact with it and that was what was causing the swelling in the lymphnode...they watched in for a few months and i had to go see a infectious disease doctor (boy THAT sounds scary) but when nothing had grown in 3 months i was given a clean bill of health...

ok so what i am saying is if you can get it checked out cause it could be something majorly wrong...OR it could basically be nothing.

had i not had it removed i would have been fine, it wouldnt have had any adverse effects...or anything..lmao

Last year it felt as though I had bruised myself about an inch above my elbow on the underside of my arm.  I thought maybe I banged it without realizing it.  All night I kept looking in the mirror to see if it was black and blue yet....Nope.

Next morning my arm pit looked as if someone slid an egg under my skin.  It was huge!  Not round, but oblong.  By the time my Dr. sent me to "the specialist", it was the size of a jellybean, but at the top of the arm pit.

Did some tests, all fine.  Said if it comes back to call.  It's back now,of course on the weekend....anyone have any ideas of what it is???
