For Myopic Mommies and All

by sophia35, Aug 07, 2007 11:10AM
Hi everyone!

I know most of you on this site are trying to get pregnant and I wish you the very best of luck. Congratulations to those of you who are expecting and I pray all goes well.

This post is just to give some advice I really appreciated when I was pregnant. I was all for a normal childbearth and was quite prepared for the contractions and the pain because I knew it would be worth it in the end. However, unfortunately I've got high myopia, though you'd never guess cause I use lenses.  Anyway, I ( and people with high myopia in general ) are more prone to retinal detachments.
I'd already had a retinal tear in one eye which was fixed and was advised to do a C-section (?) to avoid the risk of a retinal detachment during labour. It hadn't even ocurred to me! Since I didn't want to risk having my baby and be rushed into eye surgery, I went to my eye doctor and with his "statement" the hospital programmed a C-section ( normally women who want that have to go to a private clinic)

Hope this is useful to anyone! I don't want to add to anyone's worries but I believe you're better safe than sorry.

By the way, I have  a previous post entitled "Baby  Girl Plan -Inappropriate?". If you are interested in
info to help nature go your way ( boy or girl ) ,please check it out and if you can give some input . I will update when I find interesting stuff!

I have a 5 year old boy and now, at the age of 38 would like to have another baby.

I sincerely  wish everyone the best!

Sophia
