THANK YOU Neurology Forum!

Dear Med Help:

My 6 yr. old son suddenly began jerking in various parts of his body one night and after a trip to the ER and a visit with a neurologist who ordered numerous tests we were told he was fine and that he just had some tics, but not to worry.  I did not feel comfortable with the diagnosis and asked for copies of the results of all his tests.  I searched all over the Internet for help and found this Web site.  I posted a question in the Neurology Forum along with some test results and Dr. RPS, as he signs himself, encouraged me to seek another opinion because he felt that my son showed signs of having seizures and that it was a matter that needed to be controlled.  I followed his advice and did get another opinion.  The results were that my son has Epilepsy and that there was no doubt.  Even the first tests run by the original neurologist, who ruled out seizures, showed very frequent seizure activity - as each test thereafter.  I feel very grateful for the information and encouragement Dr. RPS gave.  I have posted several other questions and concerns since that time and Dr. RPS's responses have been extremely helpful to my husband and I when deciding on treatment options.  I also appreciate the fact that he emphasizes the need for good communication between the doctor and the patient and that if we had questions or doubts then we really needed to address those concerns to my son's doctor in order to feel confident in the treatment he was receiving.

We're very grateful for the advice we received to get a second opinion.  It enabled my son to get the proper treatment a lot sooner than if I had listened to the first doctor and did nothing.  Thank you for this service.
