I have BPH. Whitch surgery should I make

by walter00, Jul 24, 2007 12:00AM
I am 68 years old. I was told that I had Bph 3 years ago which
caused a big stone in my bladder. I removed that one.Now the stones has come back. I was told that BPH case is causing the stones, so I should remove the prostate.
Some doctors recommended to have two separate operations:
First to remove the stones using urethroscope.
Then to do TURP surgery.
Other doctors recommended to have one surgery to remove the stones and the prostate at once.
Which one is better for me?
Any complications after any one of the surgery procedures?

The type of surgery in this condition depend upon the size of stone and the configuration of prostate. By configuration of prostate I mean the presence of median lobe and size of lateral lobes. Although, both the removal of stone and TURP can be done simulatneously,it may be technically difficult. In addition, due to prolonged surgery & manipulation of the urethra involving stone removal and TURP, there may be greater chance of stricture formation.
