Confused - Misdiagnosis.

by stacey, Apr 28, 2000 12:00AM
I work in a hospital - I have a 13 year old coming to the Paediatric Clinic who has been wrongly diagnosed as having "Rickets" since she was 2 years old - but now the doctors are saying it's not Rickets - not Nutritional Rickets anyway.

She has the stature of a 7 year old, her joints are thickened and knobed but her muscles are wasted and her calf is about the width of my wrist - am I'm small boned. Her doctors are doing a PTH (?) test but 'suspect' that it will be normal. This kid is smart as a whip and about as pleasant as anyone I've met, despite her ailment - can you help me to understand what this can possibly be, since she worries me and I can't find anything in my readings to help me help her. She deserves a beeter quality of life - and can't have it without the proper diagnosis.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Dear Stacy,

Unfortunately, I really can't help. This Forum addresses questions of child and teen behavior, social development, behavior management, parenting, communication, etc. It really isn't designed to tackle questions about medical diagnoses and conditions (with the exception of psychiatric disturbances).
